Spring Brook and Jamison Road (Town of Elma NY) Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched for a reported structure fire around 1pm on Sunday-October 14, 2007.

I was part of a BBQ team from the Evans Center Volunteer Fire Company who were cooking 700 halves of chicken at a benefit for the Franciscan Center being hosted by the Elma Fire Company, just a few miles down the road from the fire.

I responded and acted as the safety officer for the incident commander. While there was a huge header in the sky that could be seen for miles, the fire building was a relatively small storage garage apparently packed with combustible or flammable materials behind a residence on Bowen Road. The building was a total loss and threatened nearby structures before it was extinguished by the local volunteers.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Erie County Sheriffs Department.
