Ok so our township, after lots and lots of pleading and begging finally got the grant we needed and purchased a brand new 3,019 gallon tanker (excuse me, tender as we have to say around here now) So at our last meeting, our training consisted of everybody riding in and driving the new tender so that we could all get a little more familiar with it. I don't know if God blessed me, or if I'm just made for it, but I have never driven anything as big as this truck or anything with air brakes and I did really well. My chief told me that he was really amazed and impressed with my driving. (I did silent jumps for joy!!) Anyway, long story short, my chief told all the guys that I gave him the best ride and drove the best. Now some of the guys are upset with me because here comes this 22 year old girl who has never done anything like this, has only been on the department for 6 months and "shows 'em up" as was mentioned. Now all the guys are good guys, and I understand why they're upset but should I be sorry for this??? Noone has been mean or hateful, I think they just feel, I don't know showed up.

Thats awesome!!! There are a few older guys on my department that have problems with women just being a part of the fireservice. I couldnt disagree more about one specific thing then trying to keep women out just because they are women. We have a 4500 gallon tanker at my department. It is a huge tri-axle truck with a split differentail. Needless to say, IT IS HARD TO DRIVE. Anyway I think you ought to come down to my department to show up some of these older guys that think they can drive it. LOL Never be sorry for being good at something

Absolutely not ! You are able to do something someone else cant big deal, thats how God made us. If the guys on your department cant handle getting beat by a girl then they need to grow up !

Tell the boys to put on their big-boy pants and get over themselves! Anything done well should be respected and learned from.

Good job. Don't ever be sorry for a job well done. There is nothing better than a good and SAFE driver of a truck. It's a man's world out there and please don't think I am sexist but it's hard for a woman to move up in that world. Do what you can to achieve your dreams and goals no matter how many men you show up or outdo. Always keep your head up, do a good job, and stay safe and you will get more respect not just from the men but everyone you work with. They will always know that you can do your job and you can do it very well.

dont be sorry about it hold your head up. you dont always have to beat the guys but when you do be modest. never try to best them that is a down fall waitin to happen. let it be natural you will better them at a lot of things you wait and see

U don't need to be sorry for something u are good at doing. If anything, just post some "pointers" that you have found helpful in operating the equipment. either they will be on board with your tips or not. just do the right thing safely and have a plan b. Take Care.
