Bill Brierton commented on Lou Angeli's blog post Replacing Heavy Rescue With Lightweight Trailers
"Not only is it a horrible idea, it is a stupid one.  Whoever thought of this has no clue of how the fire service opperates.  It is or will be a disaster waiting to happen if it is implimented."

Bill Brierton replied to Ty Rowan's discussion Charged Hoseline During Extrication?
"On just about every MVA we go on, we charge a line.  It's just a safety precaution should Mr. Murphy come along and decide to make the situation worse than it is."

Bill Brierton replied to Kent Calhoun's discussion Volunteer firefighter are not real???!
"To me it doesn't matter if your volunteer, POC, or career it is a vocation in which you have to have a love for what you do regardless of what others think or say.     "

Bill Brierton replied to Lee Jones's discussion Extrication. Who Is In Charge of Patient Care?
"I haven't had this issue but the senior EMT worries about patient care and the senior fire fighter worries how to get the patient out of that crunched car.  In my 24 years I've never had that problem.  Maybe I'm lucky or…"

Bill Brierton replied to Leroy's discussion What's In Your Bunker Gear?
"Some doggie treats, flashlight, and a few tools.  If you have to ask about the doggie treats, well if you ever entered a house fire with an upset dog, then you're definitely up a creek without a paddle. "

In Memory of former Assistant Chief & Vice President Michael Francis Krakosky

Posted on January 19, 2010 at 9:43am 0 Comments

Back in June of 1992 when I first joined the volunteer fire department, I met a slighly older gentleman by the name of Michael Francis Krakosky or as I quickly found out his nick name "Slick".

Not sure why but he seemed to take an interest in me and was my first aid instructor, which at the time was enough to ride the ambulance. After the first aid course, I was off to take the basic courses in fire fighting which following one incident at the training academy I almost quit. If it… Continue

Since my last blog here. Kind of fitting. Yesterday I went to the station to get my gear including my mask to do a ride along with another station. My gear was there but not my mask, without the mask I can't ride. It seems without my knowledge that I was regulated to non-operational status. No note, no phone call, email, nothing.

If the volunteer fire department wants to play reindeer games, well they can play them all by themselves. As of yesterday, Friday August 28, 2009 taking the… Continue

Where I am now

Posted on August 18, 2008 at 11:22pm 0 Comments

Well I am no longer with Marlboro VFD. It wasn't an easy decision since I liked being with station 45 for 15 years. I transfered to another station which is a bit further from home but at least my other half is willing to compromise. The other station is ok but like any other vfd it has its issues as well.

So I will continue to be a volunteer till this body no longer can cause the spirit is willing and it seems to drag the body along for company.

Of course if I get a… Continue

Hmm how do I say this without sounding wimpy

I have been a volunteer fire fighter/EMT for fifteen years. Love the station I am at and I even get along with a majority of the career fire fighters. I say that since there are very few volunteers at my station, and at this moment I think I am the last "running" volunteer. My issue is that the volunteer corporation (name witheld so I won't embarrass them) has decided to sell my volunteer station. They say that I can come ride with them but most of them do not even know who I am.
