Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...November 29, 2009

Remember like 2 weeks ago I wrote that I had the courage to tell someone something?

Well, it was my husband.

We finished that conversation on Thanksgiving night.

We are separating.

At least now I don't have to ask permission to go on a fire call.

Love from NJ

Thanks Geoff. When we adopted our kids we knew it would be a life-long commitment even though we have had many many trials over the last few years. And yes my chin is up because I have the support of the guys at the firehouse and some of the friends I've told. And funny thing is I wasn't expecting my two sons, 12 and 16, to all of a sudden act like my big brother. Looks like I may have alot of growing up to do. LOL Have a great day.

I am sorry to hear about you and your husband seperating and for the problems with your daughter. When my wife and I met 18 years ago, she knew what she was getting into and is very supportive. The moment I leave the house to go to the Station, she turns the scanner on and if she has to leave the house, she takes the handheld scanner with her. We have an agreement that after EVERY call I HAVE to call home and let her know I am safe. She is on a first name basis with all the Dispatchers and If she hears that one of us got injured, she calls into Dispatch to find out who it is.

Keep your chin up. There is a guy out there who will appreciate you for who you are.

Thanks Brian. Daughter is back in rehab so I can sleep at least for the next 3 weeks. Some people would say I was the lucky one having a great husband. But you know when you marry your first boyfriend you simply do not know what you will need later on.

I follow your notes often Denise. I wish you the very very best for both yourself and your daughter. Its too bad your hubby did not recognise a winner when he should have. Time can make the difference! good luck and keep the focus and stay safe k

Am glad everything is working out for you now. Too bad your hubby could not support your desire to be a firefighter. Wehn my wife and I met, I was already a firefighter, so she knew starting out. Glad to hear aobut your daughter as well.......just things I have to look forward to with mine......

Hi, Chief Mike, don't be sorry. I am SOOOOOO happy. It just caused my drug addicted daughter to give up the boyfriend and go far away from him to treatment. She said if I can do it so can she.
