SARANAC - A fire destroyed a Saranac home owned by Greg and Becky Griffin at 5328 Bennett Road around 4 p.m. Monday, leaving Saranac fire chief Jim Darby to declare the house a “complete loss.”
It was the second time the home at that address has been demolished by a fire, after a blaze destroyed the home last October.
The family was not home when that fire occurred, either.
HASTINGS -- The wife of a Rutland Township man whose remains went unnoticed in a burned-out car after firefighters extinguished the blaze said she appreciates the apology she received from the Hastings Fire Department and other local officials.

HASTINGS - The mayor, the fire chief and other public officials in Hastings have sent a letter of apology to a family after firefighters overlooked their relative's remains in a car that burned in a driveway.
The daughter of 62-year-old Paul Bailey Sr. of Barry County's Rutland Township found his remains more than two hours after firefighters extinguished the Aug. 29 blaze and cleared the scene.
HASTINGS -- The sight was terrifying, Johnny Montes said of seeing his father-in-law's scorched remains in the shell of a burned car.
He cannot fathom how Hastings firefighters missed making the grim discovery when they extinguished the driveway car fire Friday morning, then cleared the scene after leaving a note on the door advising about insurance notifications.
