I was always going to join the fire department to follow in the footsteps of the men in my family. I figured why not be the first female to join in the family. September 11th was my push to join. I love it. Hearing the siren go off, driving to catch the rig and getting ready to get to that front door, it's a hell of a rush.

Your Firefighter Nation : Firefighter EMS and Rescue Social Network Box

My name is Erin and I grew up in Sag Harbor. It's at the end of Long Island. I joined the fire service in Maech of 2002. There are a few reasons why....First, my family has been a part of the fire service before I was born. I grew up watching my dad run out the door and I would wait until he got home to make sure he was safe. My grandfather has been in for over 50 years and it has been a highlight to see him still active. It makes me smile when I see him at calls. The second reason, was September 11th. 343 Men and Women in the fire service risked their lives to help others. They are my heros. I have been in my five years and it is an honor.

Holy crap it's wet down here. Damn tropical storm won't make up it's mind!! We got some pretty bad flooding in some areas and a little bit of wind, but the east coast got it worse- like 25" of rain in about 2 days. We did get 14 sweet hrs of OT, though, so I can't complain too much. How's LI?

What's up?? Haven't been on in a while~ We had a pretty good save on a 4000sq. ft. 2-story house the other day. I'm first due on the engine with a rookie volunteer, but the best is that we had JUST finished a rather sixeable dinner at the local diner and were joking about puking in our masks at "the big one". Then the tones dropped =]
I'll put pics up in the next few days. How have you been doing?? Stayin busy?

What's new buckaroo?? Not too much on ths end. Just hot & humid as HELL~ starting our summertime pattern of circa 4p.m. thunderstorms. We can usually set our watches by them!! They bring strong wind and sometimes lightining, and you know what that means =] Oh yeah- the other 2 guys on my shift (we only run 3 FFs & 1 paramedic/shift) decided to become Contract Firefighters in Iraq/Afghanistan. They're shipping out in like a month. For like $95K ($85 tax free) it's not too bad! They get that for base salary PLUS they get a certain amount per call. I might be going back into the Army as a firefighter, too. Still running the numbers.

Hey there Erin~ We had a garage fire yesterday and a couple of MVCs, but other than that, not much!! We went 8 days straight w/o a call last week, so we've been pretty bored. We're in the middle of a really bad drought, but had an unexpected week of drenching rains about 3 weeks ago; the overall water table is still way low, though. Our brush fire season has been surprisingly slow, with a couple in surrounding districts- but the big one hasn't come yet!! How are things up there going?
