- I am 32 yrs old and married to a volunteer firefighter. We have three wonderful kids together. I joined the Strang Fire Dept. in May of 2003 as a temporary secretary but in the following December the membership voted me in as a permanent board member. I served a three year term and was recently revoted in for another three yrs. In December 2008 they combined my office to secretary/treasurer. In October 2005, I was voted an Honorary member of the Strang Firefighters' Association. In Januray of 2006, I was voted in as scretary of the Strang Firefighters' Association. I have supported my husband for eleven yrs. in the fire dept. I am a proud member of the Strang Fire Department.

- Why I Joined Fire/EMS
- I joined the fire dept. because I wanted to share an interest with my huband and friends. I have served on the board of directors for 6 years as secretary. I am now secretary/treasurer they just combined my office in December of 2008. I also make sure the is plenty of water at a scene for the firemen and assist in getting other things from the fire dept to take to the scene.

Firefighters Gloves

A Firefighters Gloves hold many things
From elderly arms to a kids broken swing
From the hands they shake and the backs they pat
To the tiny claw marks of another treed cat
At 2 am they are filled with chrome
From the DWI who was on her way home
And the equipment they use to roll back the dash
From the family of 6 she involved in the crash
The brush rakes in spring, wear the palms out

If you have never had the opportunity, take a minute to explore firefighterclosecalls.com and the secret list. This is a wonderful web site to explore and learn from the mistakes of others. It is also, sadly, a roll call of those whom have made the ultimate sacrifice, in their service to their communities.
We have all joined the Public Safety Community for a variety of our personal reasons. Some of us are paid, while others volunteer. Many are firefighters, while others enjoy the EMS side of the house. We have active firefighters, line officers, chiefs, administrative officers, and a number of old timers who have seen most of the mistakes already made at least once. We have firefighters with many many years of experience, and others that, well, don’t. All are welcome here in The Nation. We welcome your input, just as we hope that you learn from the experiences of others.
Personally, I have 31 years service to the local fire department. I have held most line officer positions, and some administrative as well. Now part of the Old Guard so to speak, I am less inclined to go charging into where others are trying to escape. Instead, I choose to monitor the fire scene closely, attempting to ensure the safety of all on the fire scene.
I welcome you to the FFN. Here we all share one common goal.....
