When i was 16 years old, after returning from a bike ride with my older brother, 2 blocks away from my house a fire of great proportions was taking place. My brother and I offered our help to the people of the house that it was on fire and to their neighbors while the Guayaquil Firefighters were arriving.
For a moment my brother disappeared, I entered into the smoke looking for him, suddenly the sound of the sirens caught my attention and I got wet from a blast of water. Through the smoke a man dressed in yellow with reflective lines helped me escape from this darkness. In this moment I decided that one day I would become a Firefighter.
On 5th of May of 2000 I graduated from the Firefighter´s Academy, officially taking my place in the Guayaquil Firefighter´s Department, where till May of 2004, I got to know what it means to be a Firefighter, the fear, collaborating with the team, taking risks for helping the fellow man and most of all the true meaning of the friendship in this institution.
With them I lived severe fires, like the explosion in the arm warehouse of the Navy Base in Guayaquil, the fire of a submarine and several ships, while I entered in several houses that were on fire. After June of 2009, after living in Spain for 5 years, I came to Greece and now I officially participate in the group of Volunteer Forest-Firefighters and Rescuers of Ekali, Athens, Greece, where my formation continue not only for the urban areas but for the forests as well.
The summer of 2009 I witnessed and participated in several fires but I will never forget the severe big fire that whipped the Northern Suburbs of Attica, Athens. In that fire my group of fellow volunteer firefighters gave all their best and fought against the fire for more than 4 days.
Up to now, I am still a member of this group, I am still training in order to be prepared for new emergencies and fires where I could help the citizen and fellow men.
