trees get rubbed, the ground gets scraped. You will notice that the same treeline will take numerous hits by the same buck over the years. Scrapes seems to be a matter of convenience for bucks. If they can get a good licking branch and something to rub their tarsal gland on (chest to head level for us) while they paw the ground, they are golden. You can virtually walk up on a buck who is doing this.

Engineco913 is correct on this. My favorit thing is to hunt a scrape. When that buck comes in on that scrape is to grunt him off of it. he will more than likely double in behine after coming off it. He'll be hotter than wet hornet thing there is another buck trying to muscle in on his does. To add the final touch I'll hit the doe n heat bleat. Man you talk about exciting hunt.

Just a observation , then a story : I just came back from a two day hunt. I followed a line of rubs I found last year. Most , had been "freshened" - so, does that lead me to think : One, that the deer that made the first ones survived, or two , did new bucks take their place?

Now the story:

Well, becides the fact I didn't fire a single shot - I almost got run over ! I was in my new ground blind - one of those "Popup" type tents. I was posted on top of a hill , about 20 feet from the edge of a not to steep incline , facing a flat-top area. About 8:15 in the morning - I heard alot of leaves rustling just out of sight below me - all of a sudden - to my left side about five mature deer came running up full bore - they were running straight at the north east corner of my pop-up. They were within ten yards before I could turn and try to aim my shotgun.

As I stated - I was in my "New" pop-up blind/tent - well as I spun around to try and get the muzzle into position , I hit the support rib - the whole tent spun with me ! I turned towards the running deer - they were now about 10-20 yards away - still running full speed - I managed to get the barrel out of the window - as I was still truning, My barrel hit a small tree - stopping me dead. When I set up my popup that little tree wasn't an issue as it was in a blind spot.

Well, I didn't get a shot at the deer - but I did change locations and will re-check my shot group to insure alignment with the scope - I gave that tree a good slap with the barrel when I was "Rotating" my popup!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) What a great time that was , I will be back there soon !
