Do any of you ever feel like the station social worker?

I'm 1 of only 4 active woman at my department and the only one that regularly shows up for calls. I've gotten pretty close with my guys over the years and I feel like they are my brothers and, some of the old timers, my fathers. Recently I have started feeling like Lucy in the Peanuts cartoon with a psycologist sign on my locker. The guys come to me with just about every issue imaginable.

Why did me doing this make my wife/girlfriend mad?

4One ff was having nightmares after a fatal fire and tried taking to the psyc. frm county but prefered to talk to me.

I need ideas for a present for my wife/girlfriend.

My dad/mom is sick and I just need to talk.

I'm totally stressed out......etc.

You all get the idea. Anybody else ever come across this. Please don't think I'm complaining but I feel like I need to start charging. My phone doesnt stop.

It's part and parcel with the job- sometimes it has nothing to do with gender, and everything with simply being viewed as an approachable person. People will naturally gravitate toward someone they feel comfortable with to speak with, and you are in a position to help your brothers & sisters in a way they need it: by listening and offering advice when it is asked for. Remember: we are in the role of firefighter to help people- body AND mind! :)
Thanks for the reply.
I've experienced this as well. You are likely very approachable and easy to talk to. I have helped a couple of guys with relationship issues, although sometimes I am the last one they should be talking to. haha.
I think its conversations like these that can help bring you closer to your crew.
My only concern for you is the fella who was having nightmares. As long as they realize they should likely be seeking professional help, or at least perhaps someone who is experienced with CISM, then it's fine to let them talk it out.
Luckily the ff I was refering to has gone back to the professionals.
That's good, glad to hear it. When work starts to impact life to that degree, its time to find someone to help. :)
