Ed,

Attached (I think) is our 2 way communications policy. If you can't open it, email me direct at vangasbeck@aol.com and I'll send it to you.

Do any of you have a formal written policy regarding the use of cell phones, texting, etc. while driving fire apparatus? I know that in some jurisdictions there are laws which prohibit the use of cell phones, etc., but in the absence of laws, do you prohibit the use and how?

I have worked for 32+ years in a career fire department promoting fire safety and fire prevention. There are 15,000+ accidental candle fires reported each year in the USA (no statistics available for Canada). So when a safer candle for emergency illumination becomes available that has the potential to greatly reduce the fire calls in my community I feel compelled to spread the word. Check your Mission Statement.

Kevin, when I started this group I had no idea that it would be running commercials. Fire in a glass that that is shaped in such a way that it could easily be tipped over doesn't sound like such a good idea to me.

Retired Fire Inspector/Investigator, Montreal, Canada. More recently Fire Marshall United Nations Liberia, Africa (2007-2008). Check out fantastic new concept in Safer Emergency Candles. Also details for FD Fund Raisers that create a Win-Win situation for your Dept. and community at www.asafercandle.com

Is anyone out there looking to adopt a department? Do you get new equipment often and need to find a good home for your used equipment (trucks, air tanks, bunker gear, etc.) to either give away or sell cheap?

Earlier this year I was appointed Safety Officer for our Dept. I understand that there will be members upset with me from time to time. Thats fine. The safety of my members is more importaint to me. If anyone has any ideas for me to address in our monthly meetings it would be greatly appreciated. THANKS " BE SAFE"

We are just getting a Health & Safety Committee started, We have SOP'S and have Career / Volunteer houses. Anyone tackle a similiar project recently? Could you share some common challenges and focal points?

My goal has Chief is that everyone stays safe. No member can be replaced. Has in firefighter 1 we must look out for number one! firefighting has changed alot. Its better to let it burn than getting some one hurt are killed. Lets all make sure that our brain is in gear before moving.

Looks like I'm the safety officer for next year. Trying to get some ideas for our monthly meetings to discuss/train.
