now that you said it i remember your formula LxWxH/3=gpm, thats correct, i just couldnt think at the time, thanks for the help

If I understand it correctly, what you are talking about is the formula for suppression of the home, in gpm's, if it was totally involved with fire. I think the equation is LxWxH/3=gpm. If it is not, please someone correct me, for the cobwebs in the head get thick once in a while. Whatever the case may be, we only have a general knowledge of what a building might have for a fuel package inside of it. Unless we are in and out of home in our AHJ all the time we will never know the amount of fuel we are trying to control.
After we figure the actual gpm's needed to control a room and content or a total involvement, then I would say work on the water delivery package (hose lay out and dimensions). This is were the friction loss figures come into play. One thing to consider when figuring out your fire flow ratings is try to determine the actual friction loss per 100 feet of you hose. Your hose supplier should be able to give you the exact numbers at X psi. Unfortunately fire hoses vary in loss and can change your flow numbers. Hope this helps.

20 years ago I taught real fire ground friction loss. If you dont use it you loose it. We used a finger method to teach it.
Water is very slippery to its own molecules but abrasive to everything else. If you double the size of a pipe, you increase the capacity 4 times, or something like that.

Does anyone understand the whole concept about the whole frictions loss to psi, and all that stuff, i forgot the least amount of water it takes to put out a 2,250 ft house fire, but i know you got to think about friction loss

seems like you have put your years into the fire service, i respect that and think everyone else should

Retired FMO , 20 years ago. Retired Seagrave Dist. Now for 2 years or so helping a midwest Dealer get going. Minnesota and WI. Im a h ard headed old fashioned jake and believe the FMO should have his feet on the street. Not up in the air playing king of the hill. Eyes on the gauges and not on the fire, or second guessing the fire ground. Lets hear ....... these large and small bottom feeding companies put ideas in the heads of the folks that do not go to too many fires and get em going.
Today I drive Seagraves around on tour in Mn and WI, trying to sell real fire apparatus in this no mans land it tough. com on lets get it goin!
