Being the Engine/Pump operator

I find that in this position, to be a multi-tasker is essential. I find that I am also watching fellow firefighters, fire extension (maybe note seen by others), maybe even directing in-coming units. All at the same time..listening for more/less pressure, charge a line/or shut it down/watch water level/etc..etc. The IC is also giving disrection too. And..NO we have not run into cross directions. We have found very little problems here. Finally, I do not do this on all fire scenes.

It is a fun job, it is a cool job and it can be fun, we all know what we are doing with the pump, we must keep one thing though, "The lives of the firefighters tha are operating the nozzles and their backup men are in your hands as a pump operator".
