Sitting here on the cusp of the 15th anniversary of 9/11 I can't help but think about where I was on that day. I was in the 4th grade and my mom came and woke me up and said that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. Of course I had no idea what a WTC was or where in the world it was but came out to watch the TV anyway. I watched as black smoke billowed out of the first tower. I then watched as the second plane hit the other tower. I will never forget that day as long as I live. Little did I know that years later I would become a firefighter and it would take on a much more personal meaning. I was too young to fully grasp what was happening but 9/11 was one of those events where everyone can remember where they were or what they were doing. My question is where were you when you heard that a plane had hit the WTC?

I was out of town laying in bed in a Motel room while attending a Fire Chiefs convention. My wife came out of the bathroom and turned on the TV and it was just as the first plane had hit. I sat up and was in shock as I continued to watch the whole thing unfold. I couldnt believe what I was watching. Too surreal!

Still a very sad thing.
