What's the last thing you say to your wife, husband , and family before you run out the door to answer an alarm? I always take the time to tell my wife that I love her. I tell I love her before she leaves for work, or to do any errands that she might have to do. I always tell her I love her before I hang up the phone with her, no matter who might be around to hear me. I do the same w/ my two sons even though they are both grown and living on their own. I say I love you to my family every chance I get, because, in our line of work it might be the last chance we get to say it. I know that we get our chops busted if the " guys " hear us sayI love you to our significant others, but when I get it, I just remind them that we may not get to see them again and if that happens , what's the last thing they would want them to hear? So take the time to tell them that you love them. You'll be glad that you did.

John I agree. I say I love you to my family every time I leave for work or am running out the door to go to a call. I really don't care if the guys hear me or not and I don't try to hide hide it when I say it either. Nice post.
I do the same, and always give her a kiss too. When I get to see my daughters(one is grown and the other lives with her mother) I always give them a big and kiss too. You just never know. Even with all the training, things can still go south very quickly. It just goes along with the territory. Hopfully your just not in the way when things get out of hand. Stay safe brothers!
I dont care who hears me. I tell my wife and 3 small kids I love them and give them a kiss. I also tell my kids daddy will be ok and will see them in a little bit. No need to make them worry.
Im not married, never have been but if I were, I would say, Honey, I love you and I promise I'll be back, but if not know I did my best. How do you sum up all the emotion in your heart in a few seconds with only a few words, but if a few seconds is all you have than you try. Stay safe my fire brothers and sisters.
I agree John. For me it's almost a superstition at this point. I feel like the one time that I don't do could be the last time. That rings in my head before I go out the door as a little reminder to tell whatever loved ones I'm around that I love them before I go. I've always been like that. I think about people that I know who have had a loved one pass on, remembering the last thing that they said to that loved one or that the loved one has said to them. I think about that whenever I'll be apart from them for any substantial length of time. Like you said John, as guys we get our chops busted by the other guys. It's worth it though.
The last thing I say is not for sure when I will be home so do what you need to do for the day.... Of course I love my husband ,but I don't go out the door thinking it will be my last time out.... If I did that fear would rule my life and I refuse... I don't need to go on a call to make it possible for my last day on earth... God make thats choice so I hear.. So till that day I just do it.... When it is that day,the last word does not need to be I love you going out the door ... He knows that already.....
My wife knows that I love her,and I don't tell her I love her out of fear. I tell her because if I don'tcome back, weather it's from a call or not, I know that the last thing I said to her was loving and not some smart aleck remark because we were fussing about something. It's also nice to see I'm notthe only" tough " guy that does.
amen i give a kiss too even if we have been into it becuase you are right it might be the last time we ever see them again
If I am not responding with my hubby, we tell each other to be safe, watch out for all the other crazies out there and that we love each other. we also do this with our son, whois a Jr. cadet right now.
I just had to put t out there.

Well said Ladd. Besides that we need to say it and they need to ear it.
Same here, I tell my wife I love her everytime I leave and everytime I get off the phone. You never know when your number will be called.
