well aside from drugs, alcohol, and in some places tobacco products what can you not do in the firehouse? I was driving by my station today and i realized that not all stations were so lenient as mine. One of my advisers was washing his car in the bay, while some of the juniors were goofing around outside with the hoses. Does your station allow this?
We still allow smoking in the fire station as long as it is not bothering anyone. If someone requests no smoking while they are in the fire house we expect our smokers to abide by that request. No alcohol is allowed , we had a man get hurt during a training/cleaning day several years ago and it has been banned since. All the members have access to the station and are encouraged to stop in and hang out. Better there than the street corner ot tavern getting into trouble.
My dept. is pretty relaxed but there are a few things that are a no no. Of course no alcohol at the station, if your on drugs... your not on our dept. Smoking is only allowed in the bay. Probies dont have the door code till after there one year vote. Things like washing your car in the bay or washing a load of work clothes in the washer are all ok. No personal phone calls while out on a call unless its an emergency... But most of the FF's on my dept. have a NEXTEL phone and so we do take them on calls because the directalk feature is a great way to talk to other FF's on scene without tying up radio traffic.
