I am always amazed that some departments allow people to put emergency lights on POV's. A very wise Commander once told me everything I needed to know about Code 3 driving, "Drive 5 miles under the speed limit and assume everyone wants to hit you." It has served me well, but I am not allowed to install emergency lights in my POV, nor would I want too. Im my opinion, you are only asking for trouble.
You're only asking for trouble if you're assin around while your responding to a call. I've had dash strobes and wig wags for 6 years in my truck and haven't rubbed anyone the wrong way yet. You can get in just as much hot water without lights. It's all in the driving habit and how much tunnel vision you get consumed in
That may be true for some people. You just have to be responsible about the situation. Maybe not having lights on your POV's work for your dept's. For us, it simply doesnt. I can guarantee that response times would be much much higher if ff's in my area were not allowed to respond using emergency lighting. When any one us get a call, every second counts.
Also, please dont comment on a "question" thread like this if you arent going to offer some help twoards answering the question. Clearly the person that asked the question is going to put lights and a siren on his POV, he doesnt need people telling him thats its a bad idea.
Try not to go through galls if you can... They do offer a fine product but are more expensive then some of the other sites. thefirestore.com has a nice selection and right now they are having a huge sale on all kinds of stuff, emergency lighting included.
Has nothing to do with "assin" around for a call.
More to do with regulations and laws, around here at least.
No one in my county allows lights and sirens, had much trouble with them before, and I'm amazed any Department does myself.
