Back on 9-8-12 my area was hit with 60 mph winds which knocked down trees and put many in the dark without power.

One thing about trees coming down I was walking into my living room, after my power went out on my side of the street, when I looked out the door to see a tree snag a power line on the way down and block a street near my house. Now there was still power on that side of the street because the traffic light was still working at the corner and the church oppsite from my house still had power.

Now I called 911 to report the tree with the power line down and they turn me over to public works to make the report of the tree. Also call the power company about the line under the tree. Well this started at 4:30 PM and from there to almost Midnight before a tree crew and power company crew showed up.

Between that time a fire crew from another station cameby to get a pole number of the pole and then left. All this time people would come up to the traffic light to make a left turn and when they did there was the tree and they have to back up back into the roadway of traffic of 35 mph or better. I lost count on the number of cars that did this.

The problem would have been having enough flares to block that part of the intersection for the hours that this went on. Public works never came by and could have placed cones or barricades and the fire crew could have put up Fire Line tape but didn't.

I could have stood out there for hours waving people off as another thing but I didn't.

Later that week I went to Lowes and found reflective cones and warning tape, plus I was looking for Glow Sticks which would be cheaper than flares and would last longer. I looked in a camping store and none there.

Where did I find them, in a party store. Package of 12 white and yellow Glow Sticks for under $5.00

I figure the next time something like this happens I have what I need.
