Yesterday we had three firemen burned in a wildfire in the Santa Barbara area, right up the coastline from where I am in LA City (about a 45 minute drive, give or take the horrible traffic). They were flown last night to Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks, right up the street from me. Grossman is without a doubt the best when it comes to burns. However having dealt with burn patients I know how damn painful it is to care for them. So I ask for your prayers for these three and for the 1,300 on the lines now.
About 20 homes were lost last night. These homes sit up on the mountain side and are multi-million dollar estates. That doesn't matter. Also Engine 70 was completely burned in the fire, from I believe LA County. See the topography in the area is really funky. We get what is called "sundowner winds" and these winds, which come off the cool Pacific combine with the hot air off the mountains. Yesterday it was about 100 degrees in Santa Barbara. So that combination is just a mixture for disaster.
Anyway, I just wanted to wish those injured my prayers, those on the line my prayers and to stay safe and to those who lost their homes, while it is devastating to lost your home it can be replaced, but I still have you also in my prayers as well.
Because the winds were so heavy yesterday we couldn't have the fixed wings or the helicopters in the air. However, LA County, God loves those guys, they flew and helped put out some hot spots but when those winds came up nothing but a tidal wave could have put it out.
I will post updates when I can, when I hear about the conditions of the three at Grossman. Let's just pray that these men and no one further gets hurt from this fire and that hopefully these winds die down. However weather reports are not favorable for this until Friday at the earliest.
