I recently seen a Facebook posting about a rescue squad that took over firefighting responsibilities in their area when the fire dept. shut down because of problems. They had to add a couple of pumpers and train for them. I have  also know of a rescue squad that decided to add fire service for protection of their area years ago. Now these two depts. have rescue and fire has part of their depts. name instead of fire and rescue.

I also know of a rescue squad that added a rescue pumper to their fleet so that they could handle one part of the town while the fire dept. handle their area. Now the fire dept. also runs ambulances out their station.

It use to be the fire dept. did the firefighting and the rescue squad handle the ambulances and rescue work in the area now they compete with each other.

I just wonder if anyone else has heard of rescue squads adding firefighting and apparatus to their operations. Or a rescue squad moving in with a fire dept. and becoming one dept.
