LANSDOWNE, Pa. - A suburban Philadelphia college student is back home thanks to three firefighters who picked her up after she was stranded at an Ohio hospital. Three East Lansdowne Volunteer Firefighters made the 950-mile roundtrip last weekend to pick up 21-year-old Samantha Rementer.

The Marietta College senior had suffered a head injury last month in a fall. After multiple surgeries, she got caught in the middle of a dispute between the hospital and her insurance company.

Rementer's family told the Delaware County Daily Times the hospital wouldn't discharge her without ambulance transport but her insurance company didn't think she needed an ambulance to get to a rehabilitation facility near her home.

So the firefighters stepped in, making the trip for the cost of gas.

The Rementer family said Samantha is recovering well.

East Lansdowne Volunteer Firefighters set a good example for the community. They went above and beyond. Don't we all just love insurance companies?
Awesome job to our brothers in East Lansdowne, Way to Go!!!!!!
Well done lads!

Here we have evil, socialised medicine, so she probably would have taken a routine air flight (there is a fixed-wing that basically does a lap around the state for non-emergency transports) which is paid for as part of the state's insurance program.
Nice! It's nice to read some good news among all of the crap you hear from ignorant insurance companies. Good job guys!
Good job folks! That is exactly what the community likes to see. That is the heart of what we all do.
I'm wondering.

If this had been a 700# patient, would they have done the same thing? I would like to think so.

A well deserved attaboy!
We get inundated with negative press about one or two bad apples but stories like this instills my confidence that this profession is still the greatest.
job well done to the 3 volunteer firefighters in PA
