My dept. is thinking about converting everybody over to a Pager/Portable but the only problem is that we cant find one with a repeat on it. The main reason is that it can be a hassle for the officers to carry a pager and a portable.
We will have the people that are not suppose to talk on it: will be disabled.
What do you think?

yea but they do make some that are both but they dont repeat.
yea but iam talking about a pager and portable integrated
well u know how some FF's complain lol
but to me i would rather have the integrated one with repeat so i could replay the page for obvious reasons. u know
lol
oh yea sorry the one reason for every one to get one is so that they would be disabled to the communications channel but they could still talk on fire ground channels for like traffic control and stuff like that.
Pagers are great all officers ,first responders and ems poeple should have a handheald radio. after many years it seems as though that the people who have pagers want handhelds, and the ones with handhelds want pagers with voice repeat like the motorola minitors. makes sleeping better. even with the toneable feature on most handhelds, dont know of any handhelds with a repeat feature yet maby someday.
seems possible though? lol
thanks ill look in to it
Being a fire officer I have a portable and a pager. I don't like carrying a portable around when I am out or with my family. They are a pain in the you know what. My portable is also setup as a pager but once again I don't like carring it. The repeat pagers are nice but we didn,t order this time. Officers liked them to confirm the address but sometimes that address or street was incorrect. We now confirm thru dispatch. They are nice to see what calls you missed while at work, thats the only plus I see in them.
thanks man
I have a Vertex Standard VX-350. It's a 16 channel radio. I have been told that Vertex makes a memory chip for this radio that makes it repeat. Haven't bought it yet, but I plan to...
From experience wit several different radios, Vertex is junk. It is meant for mall security. It is not meant for the fire service. I know that the entire county (yes Caleb, you are in it) pretty much has them. I have done some fairly intense research into this lately. Obviously Motorola is the best. Providing you cannot afford these there are other options. Kenwood's are not bad. I have talked to several of my radio guys and dealers. It sounds like the best alternative to Motorola for the fire service may be Icom. These appear to be Motorola clones to some degree. They are also made better. The major thing to watch is how the lapel mic attaches. If you have a radio that uses a two pin mic attachment, you will end up shearing off the pins, and making the mic useless. Why on earth does anyone need to carry a portable with them all the time? Use a pager, unless you have a combo unit. If you have both a pager and a radio, leave the radio in the car or at home. There is no reason to have you radio in the mall.
