Ive seen a few different ways that a hood can be opened at different times during different incidents.  For instance prying it open with a haligan or just simply poping the hood latch from inside the car like you normally would and also cutting a triangle in the hood to get at the hood latch when the front ends to damaged.

Looking to find if there are other ways people have been trained to open a hood or a way they prefer to use when opening a hood?

For fires think about the hood struts and where you stand, also think before you pierce the hood of a hybrid
Take out the grill...catch the wire that runs horizontally across the front with the haligan bar twist it till the latch releases......or just cut into the sheet metal hood with a K-bar or even a demo saw.....
Nate, that how i was taught all so. Not to mention it keeps you way from the bumper struts in case of a strut failure.
I'm volunteer, we have one of those saws at my day job, the first time I saw a guy cut a piece of iron with it I was amazed. Even more so when he immediately put the cut edge to his face! Cool to the touch, cool to see.
We use this method on just about every car fire. It's quick, easy, and keeps Firefighters away from the bumper. They may or may not go flying, but why be in front of the things is you don't have to be?

Every MVA I've been on has been different; different vehicle, different damage (extent, location, accessibility) and, accordingly, different tactics. Know the basic mechanisms involved, know your tools and apply both to each situation.
