Juniors being treated like 9 year old children?
So, my department treats us Juniors very well. We do all the trainings our regular members do except sometimes we do our own tasks. Like today, we did hose evolution. Was great, i got to work the nozzle, and learned alot about how to stance yourself when operating a hose like that. I now have a new respect for the senior firefighters who make it look so easy. Because I trained, i came, i saw, i worked it out.
So basically, my department tells us, we have important jobs too, we do alot, in my department we follow the Pennsylvania Junior Firefighting guidelines i suppose. And mixed with our own, basically the only thing we cant do is, enter a burning structure fire, utilize a ladder, and work hydraulic equipment, etc. So Basically, we can do outside operations on a structure fire. We also respond to MVA's. I mean, we do work, we're not stupid.
We work hard, we keep our grades up, we HELP out A LOT, some of the senior firefighters dont know how stressful it is to work our butts off, study the trucks, run the gear, pack up,
and then 5 minutes later hear someone saying "there just children, blah blah blah blah"
Like, im not complaining because like i said
My department is good about the juniors
But i see alot of places where the senior ff's look at us like we're 9 year old kids who cant do a dang thing.
when alot of them, themselves, were juniors at one time.
I think we play an important role.

juniors and explorers do play a good bit of role in the dept and do help take the loads of of the senior firefighters and we all recognize it wether we want to admit it or not.i am glad to see that you are active in your dept and you have that urge to be as active as you can however you are a junior and have to wait your turn like the rest of us did when we were explorers.dont worry you will have your turn to make those little comments.all i can say is just brush them off and ignore them and learn as much as you can before you get those extra responsibilites. have fun and be safe!!

Brandon, your right. What you are doing is important. Your learning new things and gaining experience. BUT Bro, do you think you live in a vacuum? Dont want to come in here and diss on your Department or its members. If you have a beef with YOUR Department or how your treated you might want to run that by them rather then hanging your Departments dirty laundry for all to see.

Juniors can be alot of help on the firescene and around the station. You guys and girls do play an important role, however; being treated like a kid should be expected; after all, you are still a kid!!!!
I'm glad to hear that you play such an active role in your dept. and that your learning things, thats great, but you have to remember that your a student who is learning about the fire service, not a firefighter. That may sound kinda shitty to you but its the truth and one day you will realize it. Even when you are no longer a junior, you will still hear the same kinda things, instead of "hes just a kid" you will hear "hes just a probie." Officers and senior FF's treat juniors and probies like crap for a reason. It builds respect and in turn builds trust; the trust you need when entering a fire.
For right now, keep learning as much as you possibly can and just keep your comments to yourself. Ask good questions, show interest, keep working your ass off and you will earn the respect it takes for us to trust you inside a fire. -

i dont see why you came on here to complain about your department... if i have a problem i go to my advisers... then again the only juniors around here who really get and crap are the one with parents on the department but thats just family lol... around here we are teenagers who do the same things as adult members within wat we are allowed to do, meaning if the advisers consider it safe for us to do and we legally can you can be sure i will do it if it is needed... but we are not adults and i will take any crap that they dish bc i still want to prove myself that i am not just doing this for the heck of it, i want them to treat me as an adult when i am one

Actually,
If we would read into my post we would see several times i stated that my department is good about juniors.
I'm talking about the offset amount that just totally treat "us" dumb.
damnthing --, This isnt an ADULT world.
You were a kid once too.
I love having the oppertunity to learn at this age. Fire departments were created to protect, and to serve, which an adult can do best, obviously. My point is, if you're going to have juniors around. Don't pin ones actions on the whole group, ya know?

i'm not here to start a fight, its kind of ignorant of you, damnthing, to troll me. I like constructive criticism. But thats rude.
We're learning. But were also pretty bright too, we take the effort to come to training, we can pull the zipper up on our turnout gear, so we atleast are a little cunning right? -

I agree with Brandon and Again I may be accused of being wrong again and I am not just sticking up for Brandon but I mean its not right for you to hassle him at all.

I don't think it is right to say this to a Jr. either... My department jumps my ass for things if I don't do it right but again I am still learning now am I in the wrong this isn't right I mean damnthing you hassle me too and I think that the attitudes need to stop. I am not trying to Stick UP for Brandon and I am not trying to get attitude but I think what Brandon was trying to do was ask for an opinion as I have done on a post before and you guys take it wrong.... well one thing you juniors will learn about the fire service is the senior members take no crap and if they are being disrespected then they arent happy.we all had to endure what you are going through that is what gives them the right to speak down upon you. another thing is in the fire service nothing is sugar coated for anybody. take the advice they gave you.

Going into the Junior Firefighting thread and trolling a 15 year old kid who was asking for other Junior Firefighters opinions.
I respect the opinions of the older people oriented in the fire service, but not when there opinions are completely biased, and well, for the most part, just rude. So lets see, i started this thread, you jump on me, i reply with my opinions, to your response, and you result to using foul language, name calling, and downing the whole junior firefighting program.

1. Juniors shouldn't be packing up unless in training.
2. You are a Junior firefighter you are not a firefighter.
3. You are a child until you turn the age of majority in your state. -

I'm not going to sit here at my computer until 5:00 am in the morning arguing with you, when you're just putting words in my mouth, disrespecting me when i did nothing to deserve disrespect, so really, whatever is going on right now is just immature,
Junior firefighters, Are junior firefighters,
We learn, we're gofers, we go to school, we help out, we go to training, we prepare for whats to come, so we know, what is going on, when we can better utilize it.
But, damnthing, your way of thinking makes it sound like you're saying that we're expendable because we're kids, like we're ants because we aren't 18 yet? Respect man, especially since you just blind sided me by that rude gesture of yours in your first post. I mean cmon, whatd i do to deserve that? You're personally attacking me. I'm not going to argue with you, you're a senior firefighter obviously, you know everything and i know nothing.
But i'm here to learn, not be trolled by you.

Brandon, I understand what you mean... I have gone through it before. But I had to prove myself to the department only because I am the only Jr there in my department. I have to bust my a$$ to prove that I am able and have the agility to get the work done. WE don't have a Jr. Program but I am considered one so you know I have to work like one.. OK I am trying to help you out the best I can and I don't like how Damnthing is talking to you but he has talked to me that way ok email me on yahoo or something alright...
