Its 2011, why is this still happening?
We've seen officers without gear, Civilians humping hose...but someone on the roof? Its 2011, why is this still happening? Maybe I'm not smart enough to see the overall picture.

Is there a date to the pic or video....I did not see one. It is possible this could be already outdated.

The photo you posted gives the impression that the house is ready to backdraft any second with lots of flames and heat coming out of doors and windows. The guy on the roof... toast. What was he thinking? What was the firefighter thinking? Folks who don't have the benefit of PPE can look like this... and it's not pretty.
It's OUR job to protect the public, not the other way around. Should this individual be burned, the image of the fire department would be tarnished for a very long time, and for what?

Just so ya know, I was in no way defending these clowns. I was offering a possible explanation.
I still don't understand what was going on there. It doesn't look like a property that's under construction...not with potted plants and whatnot.

Pure ignorance, where is ic, 2nd means of egress, crowd control, and why hasn't the ff on the roof told him to get down even the freshest rookie knows better than that. Where the heck is another firefighter? And I really hope that is not a member of the fd on the roof with no ppe

Maybe he needs get his ass off the roof....I don't see ANY reason for a person to be on the roof, fighting a fire, without gear. Most Vollies who respond from home have a set of gear with them. I know I'm not going on the roof without gear and I'm trained, plus I hate going on roofs anyway.

In your picture have fireman with PPE.
PPE is so expensive in third country. so hard to find PPE in my city.

Piss poor command and control.Don't know the circumstances or what the exact story is but if you don't have gear on,get the hell out of there.That cop standing there watching could,and probably should,be escorting folks out of there.Even if all those guys who are standing around in their civvies are firefighters,GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE AND GET SOME GEAR ON!Looks like the fifties again.

I do not think it is stupid for a firefighter to say they do not like going on roofs. I don't like roofs and quite frankly I don't know of anyone in my district that does like to go on roofs. I know for a fact my Captain will not send ANY of us on a roof if a house is burning. Simply because the homes are old and he wants us all to go home SAFELY. I think it is a SMART firefighter who can say they don't like something and yet still kick ass and get the job done.

Pretty crazy no matter how you look at it the guy in the white shirt shouldn’t have been up on the roof wither he’s a fire fighter or not? If he was a firefighter he should have had gear on if he was a civilian there should have been some sort of crowd control and he should have never been up there. Secondly if he was a civilian where the second firefight on the hose? Hose lines should have at least two firefighters on it you always always have a partner
Only one hand land and no one else with gear on ? pretty bad situation
And then did you see the guy trying to start the chain saw??? It was swinging all over the place as he was trying to start it ( in the air) while watching the guys on the roof as people stood close by to him ? Not thinking he was using the best technique to start that saw?
It does look like the guy in the white t shirt was trying to get the firefighter off the roof ? who shouldn’t have been up there by himself in the first place being the only guy with gear .
Its easy to look at this situation and guess what’s going on but there may be more to the story?
