The Social Network & Community JUST for Firefighters
How many of you get to use these? Video Request...
Understanding that we all have Sony camera's or something that can record a short mpeg... anyone out there with a "real firehouse fire pole", especially a station with a 40-foot pole... could video their experience of using one of these? From the sounds of the replies on this post, it sure looks like firepoles will slowly continue to disappear. Documenting the experience will be the closest most of us will ever come to a firepole.

On a serious note Roy, the mention of horses kind of makes me think of ponies... having three daughters exposed me to the "my little pony" world and what a threat it is to all of us. You think I'm kidding here? Well think again Roy!

When I was there it was a giant pain, brass and glass was done on tuesdays so every shift would rotate thru it. Thats also not all the poles there are about 4 more on the other side there the shorter ones.

Who can remember TV shows or movie where fire poles showed up. The Dean Martain Show where he would start his show by sliding down a pole. The 60s Batman TV show for Bruce Wayne and Dick Grason to slide to the Bat Cave and even slide up to get to the Mansion. Fahrenheit 451 the firemen not only slide down the pole they slide up the pole rather than walk up the stairs.

Nice Los Angeles CITY Fire Dept. picture. In LA city, all of our stations over 2 stories still have poles (that i know of).

idk about busiest. we have Fire Station 9 here in Los Angeles City. *take a look at it on youtube) That station averages 53 calls a day.
Just wondering how many you guys get?

We have half on the second floor of our station. The bottom half was taken down due to the guide rails for the garage door. It would really hurt if it was still in use..lol
