Hose lays
My company uses minute man loads for our cross lays. This kind of load is not the best kind for our area and staffing. We tried to load the triple lay but with the amount of hose we have it just did not fit in the cross lay. my question is does any one use a hose lay that can be deployed with one person and loaded with 2 that we can try??? I know bit of a hard one but any ideas would be great

How much hose are you running with in your cross lays? The most we have is 200'. We run a modified minuteman load and it is easily deployable with 1 guy and can be packed up by 2 guys , which is real helpful since we only have 2 guys on a truck. So I don't know what to tell you.

It sounds like you may not have packed the triple layer load correctly or efficiently. We have transverse loads with limited space and a triple layer load fits. You whould be able to fit it wherever the same amount of hose would fit normally. Try again, it may just be getting used to packing it. This is a very user friendly load.

Well I got the info from the chief that it would not fit> i love this load and used if for years its easy to pull and not to hard to pack. Maybe this weekend I will pull the engine out and try to pack it myself...

We do triple lays with twist, we'll take the nozzle and by the time its done it's in the middle of the trip lay. We've started this years ago because we had people who would just grab the nozzle and run making the big mess of spaghetti at the truck. Our preconnects are 200 and they fit just fine.

We have minuteman preconnects and never had a problem.
Ours are set up with a 150' and 200' lay coming off each side.

I'm sorry but you only respond with two people period? yea, our dept has been there before too, and we also only have two persons to a truck but there's other people from other trucks or pov's that help out. Don't mean to overstep my bounds but in our dept if you respond then you help clean up, and nobody leaves (other than for work) till all the trucks are ready to go. TEAMWORK
We triple lay our 1 3/4" with 200' we take the nozzle off till its all done then when you reattach the nozzle you pull the last loop through the handle so if you grab the nozzle you have to grab the other layers. this lay really isn't too hard for only three or four people to do.

Our dept uses 200' triple layer (we like the cuteness of the name triple tier, though) on our 1-3/4" laterals, and it takes up less space than a minuteman. 2-1/2" we use a simple flat lay. A 2-1/2" blitz line off the rear, though, we use a triple tier because of the higher wall. I have always found the flat lay to be easier than a triple tier for anything over 1-3/4".
On that note, you can always spec a truck with one lateral lay to fit a 2" or 2-1/2" hose in side-by-side layer.

There a a few out there one is the called the "triple layer" load.....But that being said I have never found anything better than flat loading hose. It simple to pull and everyone knows how to pack it.

After years of using the triple fold for our cross lays, we finally went to a simple flat loads for our 1 3/4-inch synthetic hose. as you stack the hose, (and we use 2-3 people to load the hose), you can leave a loop 1/2 way up the stack to help with extending the hose. We use TFT nozzles that are kept connected. this hose lay does not turn into spaghetti and is a lot easier to re-rack than the triple fold.

Staffing is not the issue here being agressave and being able to get a quick knock is the point to this post.
