A newsletter sent to firefighters from the Houston Firefighters Union
states that Acting HFD Chief Rick Flanagan is blocking it from access
to union members....
This is why I have problems with "Fire House Politics" - PAC fund is an issue. All to often our Union PAC Funds are controlled by a small group of "Like Minded" individuals. So the entire Department can be held hostage because of who does or doesn't receive PAC Funding.
Does your Union have a PAC Fund Committee?
Who picks eligible candidates when considering funding/donations?
Can any member nominate a candidate or does the Committee suggest names?
By approving a candidate mean the amount of funding is up to the PAC Committee - without Members approvals or vote.
Once approved, is there a time limit on such support - one race - one year - or as long as the PAC Committee approves?
In Buffalo NY we have had this issue tossed around , yet theres no true end in sight or consensus. What do you think?
There hasn't been any more stories about this since I posted the link. I am not affiliated with HFD nor their Local however, I do know many who are including my Chief. There is probably way more to the story other than not allowing "solicitation" on department property. The pending harassment issues and a new Mayor, probably all have something with Chief Flannigan's order.
