We are a very small(6 member) dept in south east Ks.  We currently have no fire station, we had to demolish ours do to it being extremly unsafe.  We are looking to build a 50x80 with 3 drive thru bays and an office space and training/meeting area.  We are capable of doing the interior construction, to help reduce cost. The total project is going to run about 68,000.  Like i said we are a small dept and we dont need anything fancy just functional..does anybody have any info on available grants

Jason, FEMA use to have a grant for firehouses and training facilities but has not been funded for years. You can go to the USDA web site they do offer low interest loans and grants under community facilities. You may be able to get some funding here.

I am guessing here that your county or your state doesn't provide low interest loan money for public safety projects? I would guess your county or state fire assoc does not do anything like that either?

Only grants I can think of are grants that involve Green Projects. If you were to say build you station in a way that you would save energy or help the environment you might get a grant that way.

One company I know involved in that would be Monolithic Domes in Texas.

Their designs help save energy and will stand up to destructive weather.

That is one idea I can send you way.

The USDA Rural development Loan program may be your best bet as you are going to have a hard time finding grants for a station. To the best of my knowledge there are no publically funded grant programs for stations.

That being said, you may be able to find a grant from a private source. It will take quite a bit of research, but they very well may be out there.

Jason,

I was just checking the first round of AFG grants and I see that you guys have been awarded 51K for PPE and training. Congratulations!

Do yourself a favor and check with a lot of PPE vendors as well as some departments in a 100 mile radius of you before you make your purchase. We have some pretty respectable vendors that cover our corner of SE Kansas and we have one or two that talk a pretty good game but their after purchase service is pretty crappy.

Again Congratulations and try your best to use it wisely.

Take Care Brother.
