firefighter 1 training

   Well im finally starting my dream. Im getting fitted for my turnout gear next Wednesday and then i start FF1 training the 14th of April. the training is every weekend (just about) for a while. My big question is what too expect from Firefighter 1 training? how physical and mental is the FF1 . Please share your past experiences and give me any tips, and what to expect. Thanks

Well i'm not sure how you train in OR but i would think it couldn't be much different then us in NY. I would expect you will be taught to a bunch of different stuff. It will be  pretty physical at times. If you do mazes and entanglements that can be mentally challenging. You will most likely have a bunch of formulas throw at you that i would take notes on but would not get all to worked up about. I would stress listen and ask question's but have fun and be safe. My department is hosting the FF1 class and we start on April 9th so i will have a busy 7 months ahead of me with our 5 new recruits that will be in class.  Good luck.

give 110+% of yourself to learning, help your classmates who are having trouble and dont piss off anyone, remember the fire service is a generational job and you are gonna be working with (or for) some of the people in the class with you. enjoy the expierence and go with the program, congrats and good luck

Is it a state academy or a city/county fire academy for a department you already got hired for?  Big difference in what to expect.

First off good for you!!!  You have now entered an elite brotherhood of caregivers and civil caretakers.   Just remember FF1 is just the door into this very "unpredictable" job.  Never pass up a training or learning opportunity, they happen when you least expetct it.  I have been around the fire business all my life and learn new stuff every day.  When the day comes that you think you know it all it is time to retire.  lol  Good luck and always train and keep you head up BROTHER:)

Congrats on getting started! I'm in the same boat and have my first tests and practicals coming up this weekend that I have been studying and training for at my dept. We do it by classes here seperatly since I am in college and can't go to our academy I am taking the classes when I can and my department allows 2 years to complete FF1 AND FF2 requirements.
