Fire Training Props

I am new to our training division and I would like to get some different types of props. Does anyone have any tried and true setups? Some tips and pics on the construction would be great too. Thanks.

Check out the videos on Firefighter Nation by Dale Peckel. We built the window prop and it is great for practicing alot of self rescue and victim rescue techniques. He has posted several great training videos. Great work Dale! JD

Jeff,

I am the training officer for my department and I use a lot of different types of training props. Sorry I don't have any pictures for you. I can go to our local hardware stores and they will donate any scrap or destroyed lumber so I can build props. I also use wooden pallets to build mazes. Very inexpensive. I also use culverts from our P.U.C. Save your old or damaged facemasks. I spray paint them black and make my guys go threw mazes with no visability (non fire environment). Mazes with pallets can make confined space props and I use ropes, wires, and anything else I can get to do entanglement drills. My guys lovet hese kind of drills and the best part of it is I can change it up with very little cost. You can also get some good ideas from fire websites. Good Luck. Hope this helps you. One thing I remember my fire company called a moving company in the area and they had a few wooden packing crates they would give away and we would use them for public dispalys for room fires but they may save money in buying lumber to build props and other devices for training.

Now some depts buy steel shipping containers that are hauled on ships or trucks and be used to build training buildings or used to store props in.

Some have been turned into training towers or flashover buildings.

yeah, what we did was make a roof on the ground at our station and practice venting a roof with the district next to us, aas you can see this was ne well used prop, hopefully this helps you

Press-n-seal works good, makes them clean the outside of their masks when finished too! Find a playground, run a search rope thru it and have them follow the rope thru the playground, up stairs, down slides etc. Some really good props on Youtube also.
