hey there i am on an all volunteer department in lyons oregon well to your first question yes we do go out in the comunnity and hand out the little plastic fire helmets and we actualy have plastic badges for the little kids because they last alot longer and we also have a little backet of goddies for the little kids with drawing acctivities a little bracelet a 6inch ruler etc. but our main out look for the going out and handing this stuff out is to help with our job and make sure that the family knows an escape rout and that they know what we look like in our turnouts if we do have to comein to the buildings so we do a little preformense and ask questions and encourege the parents to set up routs and safty with there children for the second question no we do not get paid like i said i am on a volunteer department we do not get paid to go to events it is all about the comunitys safty for us and also trying to recruit future firefighters also and to the third question yes i do enjoy going to the functions i think it is great that we can teach these children safty and just to let them know in a dangerouse situation it is ok and that we are trying to help them you know i enjoy seeing the excpression on peoples face when they find out that we are volunteers and we take time out of our days to save there lives and the thank us it is just a great feeling to get that from our comunity

In my county the fire and rescue association ask the volunteer companies to ask their members to help out at the fair by providing protection by working the ems area or put a unit on display for the public to look at during the days its open plus work the booth for recruitment. The career side runs the fire prevention booth and even provide a paramedic crew for the fair.

my combination dept. runs a ride at our fair and we always have a rescue crew for races and demo derby's. I know we make money for the races and demo, but im not sure about the fair ride
