Do your departments bill?

The New York Times recently had an article about how fire and police departments are starting to bill for accidents.

So heres the question does your department bill for accidents, or fires and if so where does that money go?

We also use a billing company. The money collected goes back into eqt. .. This has been a huge life safer for us as we are all volunteer . We do no collect by taxes just who ever decides to pay their dues . Good Luck and God Bless .

YES, Is a matter of fact our company have the full support of our Township Supervisors in that they passed an ordinance permitting our company to bill township and out of town resident for services rendered.

We also set up a charge rate for each piece of equipment used at the time of the emergency.

We have a lot of farmers in our area that burn off their corn stubble if don't have a permit we will put it out and bill them if they do we will leave them in charge of it and not bill.

Our municipality does not charge it's residence because their tax money already pays for us but if we go to an MVC or something and the victim(s) are not from our municipality then they get a bill in the mail.

No. Our fees are taken directly out of everyones taxes through a voted on millage. Some people complain that we charge too much, and then we tell them how the system works and that quiets them down pretty quickly. Now if we get repeat offenders for unauthorized burns, etc. the fire authority turns that over to the township, city, etc. and they can go after the person for funds.
