i was just wondering if anyone had ever had a moment where the would want a different job. like when you couldn't save a little kid with cpr did you ever wish you had a desk job? your average 9-5? I guess this would be when the stress of the job got to you or something.

I've thought about it before, I won't lie but I'm glad I stuck it out. I've always kinda wanted to be a cop, so I through the thought of Public Safety out there, that way I get both world's.
Are you kidding? Having worked as a career firefighter for close to 30 years now, I couldn't imagine doing anything else. This is an awesome job that attracts the best of the best. What an honor it is to be able to serve the public.
I would NEVER want to be anchored to a desk....and yes, sometimes on certain calls or immediately afterwards I think "What in the Hell am I doing here..?"...But, I always come back...About 7 months ago I had 3 codes in less that 5 days....the last one being my mother....if it weren't for a lot of support from other EMS people I wouldn't still be doing this today....and I love it so much that I actually Volunteer....and not like I don't get enough at work....I am a Registered Nurse as well......LOL Stay safe and always remember to keep the faith.....Paul
I have not had to worry about that, and I hope I never have to. I don't think I could give it up, because there is aways more people who need you. I might have to take some time off.
I've been in this field for about ten years and wouldn't change it for the world. Yes I have thought about of getting off in the past. But now I'm glad that I stuck it out. It is in my blood.Dont get me wrong I've seen my share of the good and the really really bad but it's like I said it's in my blood.

I wish I would have become a Firefighter years ago, I used to work on cars for a living and thought there was no other job in the world, until the places I worked for were all the same, Screw the customer over for all they could and I couldn't take that and then I was introduced into the Fire Service and I know there is no better job in the world now. I hope to be able to go more into a full time spot on a department some day.
I sometimes wish that I had pursued a career firefighting job, but my actual career took a different path. But all in all, I'm satisfied with my line of work and I love being a volunteer firefighter.
