channellock rescue tool
Does anyone carry the channellock tool, and if so how do you keep it from tearing holes in the pocket of your gear?

As of now I have a rubber band around the handle and it keeps it from tearing it up, but will be purchasing the sheath for it soon.

That is a great question. I was carrying one as was my nozzleman. We both ended up with holes in pockets. Here is what we are doing. We are ordering the scabbard you can get (leather) and are going to try to carry them in the scabbard on our bunker pants belt. If that turns out to be inconvienient I might try wearing a learther belt out side of my gear, like Chicago guys do.

By the way Casey my brother is a truckman on Ladder 36 in Austin. The Channellock is a great tool.

I took a small section of old 3” hose and made a pouch to put all my tools in. It works out really well.

I don't carry mine all the time, I throw it on the rig when I come on shift. That way if it is a call I may need it I have it; but if it is a med call or something I leave it in the truck. I will agree that it is a great tool for specific jobs.
The holster is very large and cumberson and I would not recomened it.

I carry the 88 version since I wanted the one with the pliers AND cutters.
But I do the same as Wade and just leave it on the truck or in my car unless I think I'll need it. Channellock needs to consider making the thing a bit lighter without a doubt...

The window punch seems to be what gets caught in my bunker pants. I filed down the punch a bit and it fits much better now....no more tearing.

I took a small piece of fuel line (weed eater) and cut it flush with the tip of the punch. It will retract far enough to allow the punch to work, but still protect the pocket.

I've seen guys do this. Just use the jacket and fold one end of it to make a pouch. It's tough enough to withstand anything.
