And to think I wanted to turn an old pumper into a rolling Bar B Que pit.

There is nothing wrong with the "recycling" concept, nor even using an old rig for such a purpose, I would say the issue is that the painting and decals does still appear to be an emergency vehicle. I would venture to guess that if the decals like the Star of Life, the "ambulance" on the hood, the Maltese Cross on the doors, and the DFW Rescue logos off, there wouldn't be a question.
I've seen plenty of old ambulances recycled for private business like plumbing, electricians etc, and even seen an old "party" ambulance at Packer games for tailgating. The thing with that is the paint job is green and gold, decked out with the Packer "G" and there is no doubt that this is NOT an emergency vehicle.
The best recycle of a ambulance I have seen is being turned into a ice cream truck. Better yet a rehab or coffee wagon for the fire dept.
While the lights don't bother me much, the paint scheme could I guess cause a problem.
The pole in the back is an interesting touch.
I seen a picture and article where someone turned a old pumper into a rental mobile hot tub party unit. I seen a pumper in our area own by a beer company that turned it into a beer wagon and call it Foaming One.
