I am new to the site and was just wondering how many cowboy action shooters there are out there. This is a fun hobby that I have. I started about a year ago. In may I will be shooting the Texas State Championship @ Oakwood, then in June I am shooting End of Trail World Championship in Edgewood New Mexico.
Single Action Shotting Society aka Cowboy action shooting is dressing the 1880 -1890 time period, shooting single action pistols, lever rifles, and side by side shotguns. Each "stage" you will shoot each of these guns --10 pistol shots, 10 rifle shots, and at least 4 shotgun shots at steel targets. You are timed and penalized for each miss 5 seconds and if you shoot out of sequence there is a 10 second penalty. There is several championships each year. Texas State match the first of may, The world championships in Edgewood New Mexico in June, and the Southwest Regional Championship in English Texas in November. This is just around here. There is matches like this all over the country. In addition there are weekly "club" matches. I belong to Buckcreek Bandeleros in Glen Rose, Texas, and Lonestar Frontier Shooting Club at Ormsby Ranch just outside of Cleburne Texas.. If you like the old west or old cowboy movies it is a fun way to relive the time period. Any other info is at www.sassnet.com
Hope that answers your questions without being boring. By the every one also has an alias- Mine is Doc Burns because I am a firefighter paramedic.

I never shot Muzzle and very little black powder. Just so hard to clean. I did just go to End Of Trail which is the World Championship in Edgewood N.M. I was 42nd out of 59 in my class and 331 out of 577 overall. There was shooters from all over there. Australia, Germany, Canada etc. Just so you will know - Badlands Bar 3 is a shooting club in your area sort of. It is in English Tx, and Texas Tenhorns is in Greenville. Tx. There is some more around Tyler. The web site is www.sassnet.com Just click on clubs and they are all listed by state.
Hi there... I participated in Cowboy Action Shooting in Ohio from age 13-18. Would still enjoy going out, but time just seems to be splitting off in 28 different ways right now. Actually, it was a family event for us-- my dad and all 4 of us children participated. My dad is the one who still is enjoying the hobby, and the younger two still go from time to time. Do you go to a local shoot, or just the big ones? I've never been to anything bigger than my local club's 2-day shoot. Talk to you later, and safe shooting! Brittany, a.k.a. Prairie Rose (not SASS registered, though!)
I Try to shoot local and the larger matches. I shot showdown which was the southwest regional last Oct, the shot jailbreak the Texas state championship, and the E of T as I stated. In Oct I will shoot Comin' at Cha which will be the southwest regional this year. Hope one day to meet at a match. Jim Tipton (aka Doc Burns 75637)
