What Extrication Tools are your favorite
Well .To my understanding TNT is a good brand . The station here does not have them but I heard they're good.

Yes, we've had one for about a year now and it works really well. The power unit is a lot lighter than the Amkus unit it replaced. The Amkus tool served us well for 15 years but the TNT cutters have much more cutting power.

I'm going with Holmatro. I've only had the opportunity to use Hurst & Holmatro. Of the two, Holmatro is MUCH lighter and therefore easier to maneuver. TC's are a large percentage of our runs and Holmatro tools have proven time and time again theyre worth. Between our first out Engine and our Medium Rescue we have the 4242 & 4280 series spreaders and the 4035 & 4020 series cutters along with a mini system per apparatus and a full set of rams (3 per rig) to complete our extrication tools.

Homatro never failed us yet - Genesis not bad either . The top name are for the most part the same. One issue that goes overlooked is compatability with surrounding agencies, proximity to maintenance and repair.

HURST is the tool to use.It has always been the leader and the tool to beat by all the others.I have used others,being a extrication instructor I feel it's important to keep up with the new tech. but they ALL compare themselves to HURST.

Not trying to go with the flow, but its Hurst all the way here.
We've had to bail out our neighbors with their TNT set many times, they just don't have the power that Hurst puts out

Stay away from this JUNK. TNT are the cheapest tools on the market. We have had nothing but problems with this GARBAGE. TERRIBLE SERVICE, POOR QUALITY AND NO CERTIFIED PEOPLE TO WORK ON THEM. The two MORONS who installed ares I think where hired right off the street. I think that they where trying to install it like a stereo. Strip the wires and twist them and to make them watertite alot of BLACK TAPE. THESE TOOLS ARE JUNK STAY WITH A RESPECTIBLE DEALER AND SALESMAN. IF THE SALESMAN SAYS "AREN'T THESE TOOLS COOL" STAY AWAY FAR AWAY FROM THEM

I would go with Hurst/Centar. Very realiable, powerful and durable. When going with rescue equipment go FIRST CLASS and stay away from the CHEAP CRAP (tnt)

At my department we have TNT and Hurst. I would rather use the TNT cutters and spreaders rather than the Hurst. The main reason being the Hurst weigh about three times as much and are to big and bulky on the routine MVA. We have Hurst airbags and I love them but as far as cutters, spreaders, and rams I like TNT better.

I have a question for those of you who don't like Hurst tools based on their weight and bulk. Are you comparing brand new Hurst tools to the lightweight Amkus, Holmatro, Genesis, etc. tools, or are you talking about old Hurst tools from the 1980's or even the 1970's?
If you're going to do a legitimate comparison, it needs to be an apples-to-apples comparison rather than apples-to-oranges. I've noticed that a lot of hydraulic tool salesment won't compare their new tools with modern Hurst/Centaur tools. I wonder why that is???

Well Brock when you spend money for a tool that is unrealiable, weak, and the company will not stand behind them because they do not know what is wrong with them. We have had the people that installed them come down and try to fix them and it looked like a couple of dolts that install stereos in their back yards. There idea of watertite is alot of blacktape around the wires. And the first time we used them the seals blew out of the so-called super cutters, the spreader couldn't force a samll car door. But the best is the power unit, the company said it can operate 2 tools at once but when you use both the tools the unit dies, and it is hard to restart if you can get it started again. The tools leak hydralic fluid, and the seals still leak on them. Another thing is while we where using them we had to stand there with a gallon of hydralic fluid and pour it into the power units oil container so that we could use the tools. And when we contacted the place that installed them they had NO ANSWER on why they would not work and the salesman DID NOT KNOW EITHER. THE ONLY THING HE KEPT TELLING US WAS "AREN'T THESE TOOLS COOL" Now wouldn't you want to go out and buy this stuff??????? And bit of info for you I have worked with all other different tools and TNT always finished last. AND I KNOW HOW TO OPERATE THEM.

I have used Holmatro and Hrust...Our cheif bought all new Hurst stuff last year after getting some bad info on the Mono hose. Don't get me wrong, I like Hurst...But I will take holmatro over Hurst any day of the week! They are strong, light, and easy to swap tools over.
Ohh yea, did I mention how much lighter they were??
