Pompier Ladders- Does Anyone Use These?

I was talking to one of our Probies the other day, and he asked me about Pompier Ladders. I told him that in 14 years, I've never seen one except in pictures. In fact, I'm certain that no F.D. in the Chicagoland area owns one of these! Are there any Fire Departments out there that actually use Pompier Ladders? Thanks in advance!

I've seen old film (probably fifty years old or so) of British firement using ladders such as your Pompier ladders. They were very smooth in their use. (Does the word 'pompier' come from the French word for firefighter?) I've also seen very recent photos of the Brits using ladders like the ones I've seen in photos being called 'Bangor' ladders - the ones with the 'legs' that support the ladder from the side? Correct me if I'm wrong someone.

I've never seen either of those types in use here. Which is not to say they haven't been, just that I've never seen any evidence of their use.

All right asshole, you wana start calling people names like a four year old lets do it!!! Dont talk to me about why people do the job. My grandfather was killed in the line of duty when I was five years old. DONT YOU DARE TELL ME THAT IM DOING IT FOR A PAYCHECK!!!!! For one thing, I'm a volunteer, I suppose that means I'm not a real fireman according to your standards. To me, it means that I have potential to fight a fire that was as big or bigger then any you have ever faced and I dont get paid a dime to do it. You think I have a problem with that???? NO WAY, I devote my time and energy to my dept. because that is what I LOVE TO DO. If you think that doing the job as safely as possible means that I'm not a "real fireman" you better open your eyes cause your gona wind up dead

Why should DC change Dustin? He is the one on a dept that is doing 100,000 runs a year. Seen a lot and has experience in this profession and is able to back his comments with real life experience!! True life fire experience. He's the one who has been doing this proffession a certain way, a way that his dept has been doing it for years and years that best fits his area and dept. The problem is this, we get 22 year old kids who think because they have a fire dept tee shirt and sat in some recruit class held at there fire hall by some 26 year old who claims to have been on the fire dept for 10 years telling them they know everything. Fact is this. Your dept runs 350 calls a year, probably have 10 building fires, and out of that you have 1 that will require by my and dc standards 2 lines. Your not experienced! Get over yourself, come back when you don't get a rise in your pants everytime the tone goes off.this is not a game!!

Oh Dustin come out come out wherever you are you attack my brothers from DCFD and you expect me too let it go unanswered aaaahhh NOPE, NADA not happening!

I have began my fire service career (as a volunteer and continue to do so) in 1977 as a Junior Fireman in a surburban DC county rose to Fire Chief and was hired onto DCFD in 1982. I am truly sorry for your loss but I don't care, just cause you lost your grandfather doesn't make you a fireman. He was apparently brave and was doing his job, I myself have lost 4 close friends LODD (6 firemen altogether) since 1982, sorry again that doesn't make me special.

That being said yes I am an asshole I do my best! But I am straightforward in over 31 years of Fire Service Experience I have found those that chirp alot need to be taken to the woodshed and taught some humility... Thanks for the back up Dave but this I can tell, this young man needs a few more years under his belt too become a consumate fireman. FYI son.. I never call a volunteer just a volunteer I knew many a "PROFESSIONAL" who did not get a paycheck! I know plenty of career individuals whom I would no where near call a PROFESSIONAL! Other then that have a nice day!
