I hate them! they get in the way and are a pain! We have reflective trim on our tog that works just fine! If its summertime and you dont have on your to jacket then yes wear the vest. My department issues everymember a vest that must be on at all times unless wearing SCBA
The vest like the yellow with ref triple trim is what we use and I think they should be on every Fire and EMS vehicle!! I see also of the cops that direct traffic that needs to be wearing them as well!! You may hate to wear one but if it would save your life then wear it!! Do you guys complain if you have to wear turnout gear??? And dont just think that a driver can see the rigs and flashing lights , I can assure you they don pay the no attention, I have 1st hand experience in 2005 when my dept was out working and MVA on a bad curve when a teenage driver came around the curve and lost control went air borne and landed on top of my dodge dakota with enough force to turn it over!! Thank God no one was hurt but we all learned a lesson use the blocking techniquies with the vehicles , use safety vest , and tarffic cones , have spotters and have at one or 2 people doing traffic control , think of scene safety before you commit to the scene , if you cant make it safe call for more units and wait until you can make it safe before becoming tied up at the scene!! And for the chief officers who dont want to take a rig and block the roadway then your not thinking of scene safety !! Yeah I dont wana see rig get hit either but I would rather a rig get hit before I have a stupid driver who was going too fast or not paying attention slam into my work scene and injure or kill a Fire , EMS , law officer , or my patients !! A rig can be replaced but a human life cant!!! Have it dept policy that your dept wears traffic vests!!
LMAO
think of scene safety before you commit to the scene

Ricky.....I could not say it any better..... live by this!
this is great, Like i said im doing my research so that i can make as many people happy with the decision (of what kind/style ill go with) to make has many people happy as I can. not sure if your departments did this or if they just bought some and threw them at you and said "wear them and make it work" if you did do some research or some shopping around let me know tell me if you had any bad customer service or any problems or any new findings with any of that, I would love to add it to my pile of research. thanks again for all the replies!

stay safe and keep your head on a swivel!
since you are ordering so many talk to whoever you are going to order from & you may get a quantity discount...just an idea there...my personal vest is very simple...lime green wit reflective trim & velcro front...i bought this one for a 4-H project & placed it in my gear when i was done
We have the ANSI vests for every position on the trucks.

I don't see the reason for the whining, complaining, crying, bitching and kvetching about putting them on... it takes all of two seconds, and if can save save you by making you more visible, it's done its job.

When you consider the alternative... it's an easy thing to do.
yeah i have no problem wearing mine...the other day i was @ the hospital visiting a family memeber who was in the hospital...& they asked everyone 2 move there vehicle if they were parked on the road by the ER(im from a very small county with a very small hospital no helicopter landing pad)...i asked what was going on they told me...after i got my car moved the first thing i grabbed was my vest so i could do traffic control until the road was blocked off
We purchased Bluer vests through Blumenthal Uniforms. We are extremely pleased with the material, visibility and use of the vests. We paid about 55 per vest.

I bought my own. Wal Mart sales them. The one I got from there is very reflective. The only thing I dont like about it is it dosnt have a place to houk a Mic for my radio. It was about 10 dollars when I bought it.
thats where i got mine from to....
We use the DOT style vests, with the 5 way rip away system...if someone gets hung up on a passing vehicle or such the vest tears away (velcro) thus NOT dragging the person down the road (Don't laugh, it happens)..We debated giving one to each member but optes instead to stock every vehicle with a supply for max capability for the vehicle...then in our rescue equipment truck we have extras...Several mfg's have them...Fire Store ect...you might want to check out TSA (Transportation Safety Apparal) I think they have them on sale...Stay safe Paul
