This is the radio traffic signaling Knight Township Fire Department Out of Service, Jan 1, 2011. For nearly 30 years Knight stood guard, protecting the residents of Knight Township and surrounding areas. It has been an honor and privilege working with such a fine group of firefighters.

..."but we were also out there to hold the hands of the community when they were down, and celebrated with them when they had something to celebrate. We created a friendship with a lot of the residence"...

That is what is missing these days.

Steve,
I really apprecitate it, as well I'm sure the guys would feel the same. I would love to say that Evansville will do as good of a job as we did, but I really do not think that it is possible, since they won't be making nearly all the runs that we did. They won't make that impact on the community like we did. Not only did we provide one hell of a service, but we were also out there to hold the hands of the community when they were down, and celebrated with them when they had something to celebrate. We created a friendship with a lot of the residence, which made it that much more enjoyable to serve them when they needed our help.

Joe,
I watched the news the last few years, when the funds were low (and not sure back then if the dept. would stay alive) you guys busted your butts on fund raisers and stuff to raise money to keep going just makes this harder or more unbelievable that this has happened. You guys did an awesome job and hopefully Evansville will take care of your people for you guys the way you did.

That is about as heartbreaking as you can get. The Last Call for a Firefighter is one thing but to have that whole Dept go down is the shits.

This sucks, our local dept just went out of service due to mishandling of funds and we now have no local dept and the personnel were not told until after the fact with no notice.

As a member of KTFD I would like to thank all of you for your support, prayers, and comments. I must say this is the hardest thing that any of us has ever had to go through. You won't find a closer group of guys as we have. It was an honor for all of us to serve the community of Knight Township. As far as whether or not the doors will one be able to open? Unfortunatly, they will not. Being in a town where annexation is moving forward, we have prime territory for the city. Thanks to one woman who was our trustee, this dept. will no longer be in service. She "mishandled" over 80K which put the entire township in trouble and the cause of that is noted. Once again thanks to all of you.
