Is the office of Chaplain of sufficient importance to be added to our list of "Ranks Held" offered on the FFN application? Who might care more about being informed of line of duty deaths? Thanks for your time. I'm praying for a change. "Padre" Pete

"Padre",
I don't know if this will help in any way shape or form, but I do believe that Chaplain is an option as a position held instead of a rank held. I may be wrong though.
I agree with you, it should be added we've got one on our department and he's just like the rest of the brothers:)
Chaplains are very important, even to people like me who don't follow a religion. But 'Chaplain' is a role, not a rank. In our Armed Forces, chaplains carry an actual rank as well as being known as 'Chaplain'.

When I was in the Army they were usually known as 'Sky Pilot'. And the best of the chaplains were those who weren't trying to push religion and prayers down our thrroats. They were there to help us, in whatever way we needed. That's how I see Chaplains in the Fire Service.
I think so, in some ways the Chaplain is called apon duties above others, such as praying for firefighters, at all times as well as line if duty deaths. As a Chaplain and senior firefighter you are ask not only to respond to Medicals, Accidents and fight fires, you are also asked to preform Memorial and Funeral Services with sometimes
limited or little time to prepare. So you have to prepare ahead a time.

Tony, Amen. We are agreed. I have known chaplains who have seen every incident or victim as an "opportunity to win some body over to Christ". I see that as a violation of our more immediate responsibility. I'm in the comfort and console sector. The fire departments that I like to emmulate, give Asst. or deputy chief status to chaplains. By the way, thanks for "Sky Pilot". Just might get right on that. Pete
I say add the Chaplain!!! That is a very important and respectable position to have in the dept.
Good on you Peter - you're what I call a Chaplain.

Check this one out http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=_gL3HTlfW0A - Eric Burdon & the Animals, Sky Pilot. I don't like the video, but the soundtrack is the original (except for the overdubbed siren)
I agree, the Chaplain is a integral part of our livelihood. Our faith and beliefs effect our work every day and ultimately our end.

I agree and say add it.
I hadn't said I was 'for' the idea of 'Chaplain' being an option in FFN for rank. Even though chaplain isn't a rank, I think it would be a good idea to have it available as an option.
I just wanted to add that I was wrong, I thought that I had seen Chaplain under the position portion of the profile information. Again I was wrong about that. I agree with many here and say add it as an option. I also believe that it should be under the position, not rank, in the department. My only reason for that is basically as Tony P explained. I know that in the military, our Chaplains also held whatever officer rank they were along with that. I've seen the same in the fire service. Someone could be a Captain as well as being the Chaplain for example. So, sorry about my mistake and there's my input.
