Honestly Web...I don't use the "instant messaging" on this site because I think that the world of instant messaging is boring and sucks. On the other hand you may want to ask my wife, she is more into the world of the internet since she's online 24/7.

I'm a Yahoo IM user....in terms of comparison, well, to be frank, there really isn't any comparison.

The list of online users to "scroll" through is incredibly clunky--maybe it's too graphic heavy because of the photos? But you can't easily scroll through to see who's online.
The IM feature is ok, slow, but ok....but those incredibly annoying ads are.....incredibly annoying.
The black background on the message boxes require a lot of squinting, and the message boxes are too small.
Also, there's a weird tic in the program in that messages that were sent previously (meaning 10 minutes to an hour earlier) suddenly pop up as a new message.
ALSO....you can't see your initial comment and/or replies in an ongoing IM.

Lastly (and then I swear I'm finished)--there is no capability to add an IM conference like you can in Yahoo so that multiple members can IM in private amongst themselves.

Thanks Mel. Just to be uber clear-- this will never be like Yahoo IM or AIM or anything...

The reason I'm asking about it is the provider is offering an ad-free version which I'm not sure will be worth incorporating, versus just killing it. IM is nice, but...without a lot of enhancements including many like you mention -- especially the ongoing logging -- it's more of just a test now. And unless you can see just your friends who are online, too.

At some point I imagine the core software will have IM, this is just an add-on from a third party.

I'd also be somewhat concerned about people just randomly messaging people they don't know.

We'll see how it goes and additional feedback here, and decide Sunday whether to keep it or not.

I think it is great and hope to see more on this site i made it my home page it is the best idel ever the IM is a plus because if i see a good pic or a vid i like i can talk to the preson how posted it keep the good work going CHIEF.

It takes 3 minutes just to scroll down to see who is online at the time. (its slow) I could do without it based on the fact I don't use it unless I notice a display photo I know at the top in plain sight.

Not many responses. My response? Dump it. It's already easy to make comments on anything, and if we want to contact a poster direct, we can send them a MSG. I'll stick with Yahoo for my IM'ing - I can use voice there.
