How are you qualified as an explorer
these are my qualifications, the rest of the explorers in my post are unknown to me because they never took the advanced training offered to them

firefighter one
basic wildland ff
arson detection
extrication
hazmat awarness
hazmat operations
CPR
advanced first aid
im with u im a jr and i have a pager dont u need to be alerted to a call
im firefighter/firstresponder and we all have radios
How else are they going to learn if they don't know there is a call. Surely your Dept has some older pagers laying around collecting dust that you can issue to the Jr's. Just be sure to remind them that they are NOT authorized to run code, make entry, or anything else that is dangerous. Explorers are there to learn. Not fight fire.
I don't see a problem in it, as long as they know that they cannot run emergency traffic, cannot enter dwellings/structures etc. As stated how else are they to learn, if for no other reason but to observe, and assist with the things that they can do. But most assuredly, the chief needs to know that this person is responsible enough to know what he/she can and cannot do.
if they are a part of the department and do the same job as the rest of the guy/girls...let then have pagers, these guys are the future of the departments across the country/world let them get the experience at a young age so they can pass it on to the future explorers......
Honestly, I don't think that explorers need Radios, But I don't think that having an alpha mate or a voice pager would be a problem. Then again, I don't think that Explorers should be doing anything unless there are FF Officers (Chief, LTs) On scene.
My daughter is a jr. member of our fire company [she's 17] and she was given a pager as well as all the other jr. members [ages 15 to 17]. They do respond to calls and my daughter has been able to respond to every call that fell within the scope of the guidelines [no calls after 11 p.m. or during school hrs]. True, this is a rural area but these kids can't respond if they don't know where to go. The best reason for them having pagers is so they can respond to calls. Just out of curiosity, how are the explorers able to get the call presently?
first can your department afford it secondly i know alot of departments that the explorers cant even get the certs to be qualifed so i dont know but if ur are certified not just been to the classes but have the certs then it schould not be a problem
they dont all i have is my dads pager that he never wears and the advisors hates it
they use home scanners but they never took the training i took
