I have been looking around the forum and found a number of issues regarding this and some people have asked about New Mexico and from what I have found no one has given a differentiate answer (if I am wrong please let me know.) I live in New Mexico and is here is what I am told by a Department of Transportation police officer.

You have to get permission from your chief

Light bar has to be double red no red/blue.

To run code is usually a call by the chief

To run code a person/property has to be at risk of further injury or death Like a car accident or fire.

In New Mexico if you have emergency lights you can go 20MPH over the posted speed but to justify 15 over it would have to be life/death where the threat of loss would justify that. Meaning if you didn't go that fast you would most likely loss them.

New Mexico police usually will not bother you but then again I have never put a light bar on a car that is not marked with a plate to see what happens.

Although it comes to a story my girlfriends brother in law told me who is also a cop. That in New Mexico you can have what ever color light bar you want blue/red ect but using it is a different story.

They have a guy that has made to a almost exact T the transformers police car complete with the light bar and they cannot touch him because he is not acting like a police officer he just drives around.

I hope that helps if you have any questions get ahold of me I will find the answer as long as it pertains to New Mexico.

Ive found that as a vollie, youre better off not running any kind of warning devices on your personal veichle. There is simply too much liability involved if you were to have a wreck. The state of Texas requires that any emergency response veichle have warning lights that are visible 360 degrees and also have warning lights at all 4 corners as well as an audible warning device that operates in conjunction with the lighting system. Also, the driver of that vehicle is not allowed to break any traffic laws. My departments policy, you are not allowed for any reason to break any traffic laws while enroute to a call in your POV. I dont run any lights other than what my car came with from the factory. While parked at a scene, I turn on my hazard flashers. I also have a sticker from both of my departments on the rear window of my car.
I some what Agree I was just posting this because I have seen that people have asked about New Mexico's policy.
