New Forum Features, Widgets & Profile Customization Options Coming Next Weekend!

There are some great new enhancements coming to the forums before next weekend that I think will really improve how you participate here and hopefully lead to a really big increase in forum use.

You'll be able to specify if you want:

* “Flat” — replies are shown in chronological order, or
* “Threaded” — replies are indented below the post or the reply that they respond to

Right now they are threaded. Any thoughts as to what the default should be? Typically its flat, so the latest reply always shows up last .. which is how most of the major fire service forums tackle it. Please post feedback right here.

There will also be some adjustments to the forums home page and category pages to make browsing and seeing the latest discussions easier.

Plus, some other cool enhancements:

# Enhanced Viral Widget Distribution: You can easily spread your network’s badges, widgets, individual videos and photo album slideshows to MySpace, Facebook and 15 other popular destinations without the need to copy and paste HTML embed code.

# And last but surely not least...something MANY have asked for ... Drag and Drop Profile Page Layout Editing: You'll be able to freely rearrange your profile pages!

Thanks

Thanks Web Chief,

I personally like the "threaded" format for the default. IMHO, it keeps the flow of conversation a little more organized and helps a reader to follow the discussion intelligently, if used properly, of course.

In addition, for folks that have never used another site like this one, we have been using it this way this long. If we were to change, some would have to learn a whole new way to look at the site. This can be frustrating for those of us that are a little less computer literate...

Thanks and Be Safe...

Web Chief, Sounds gret and can't wait till next weekend to try it out.
Personally I don't mind what we have here now. It does grow a little difficult to view new comments (unless your a subscriber) but if a thread means that much to someone they can follow it. I think it would be wierd to have comments in Chronological order because there will be a lot of incomplete type thoughs and sentence that have no relevance to the past comment posted...
As with the rest of the fire service, I am sure we all can and will adapt to the changes.
