Because the fire fighters are actively participating in strenuous activities it is important to maintain a good level of fitness.
age and health conditions can adversely affect ones abilities most cannot follow a specific standard set up by fitness instructors or personal trainers.
much require the active participation of a health official and we in the fire departments have access to members of the ems. in this we are lucky.
discuss it with your safety officer and ems members,
if you have a health condition that must be considered , a modified regime of diet and exercise can be set up by your doctor and monitored by your safety officer or ems
doing activities as a group is much easier for example a "heart walk" a 3 to 5 mile walk is good exercise for everyone and a good way to get the community involved,
and many local gyms may offer group discounts to firefighters
dietitians should be consulted for those with health conditions, but in general a heart healthy diet will suffice.
i will post some carb and protein charts later that you can consult
