In Kentucky we have to gain 150 specific training hours to be a certified volunteer firefighter. To move up to career you must have 400 specific hours. What are the recquirements for your state?

In Alabama, the Certified Volunteer Firefighter course through the Alabama Fire College is 160 hours. Thus, everybody refers to it as "the 160 class".

In Michigan for a volunteer most depts. require FFI and FFII certs.  To get those you need a min 260 hours of class/hands on training
