Tips for a new Training Officer??

I'm sure there are several posts in relation to this topic, but I haven't found one as of yet. So I figured starting one couldn't hurt. So here goes.

I was recently appointed to the position of "Training Coordinator". As such, I'm now in charge of all Course location, scheduling, and recordkeeping for every training class my department attends or puts on. I'm looking for tips and hints to help me be a better training coordinator for my department, and also to help me successfully and effectively manage being in my new role. Any input you have is valuable and very appreciated.

Jeff,

As a training officer for 2 volunteer fire departments my philosophy has been keep the trainings short 1 to 2 hours and keep them moving. I am not saying I have not gone longer but the fact is people have worked all day and they don't want their time wasted.

I would love to see your Dumpster Fire" power point presentation because I can't begin to imagine how you could make that last an hour, let alone 4. To me this is about a 1/2 hour class, maybe an hour if you did practical.

After I get it done I will gladly show it to you. I'm working on it little by little and it's slowly coming together. Ironically enough, we had a dumpster fire a couple of shifts ago. Nothing too bad In there, but one of our young firefighters got a little overconfident. Thank you guys so much for your input, and Norm, my kids are feeling a lot better, but now the rest of the family is sick, myself included. I'm just glad they're better
