I got curious today and was wondering if anyone had done this? A while back a friend of mine got a turquoise/teal flash hood. It was to support a firefighter that had a son, with some type of disease, (not trying to disrespect but I don't remember). I tried to get the link from him but was slack. Anyways the moral of the story is that I liked the blue. Have any of ya'll actually dyed a flash hood the color or design you wanted? I'm seriously thinking about it.

Not really, then I wouldn't have had the chance to piss a few of you off, nor provide manufacture's recommendations and facts/information. Don't you see the good in any of this post?

You didn't piss me off, I just thought I'd point out that sometimes it's better to do one's own research first, see how things shake out, before asking people what they think.  In other words, it's most often more effective when you can answer your own question.

As for pissing people off, you have a long way to go, grasshopper.

I will agree with you on doing research before asking, but my main goal for starting this post to see if it had been done before. Thank you for your input.

Also I believe the firefighter's son had cancer, for anyone that was wondering.

Oldman -

Well, it could provide quite a bit of stress relief for the other guys on his department when Matt comes out of the training/burn building/ or (gasp!) actual fire looking like a phriggin Smurf because of the dye transfer from his hood to his face!

(yeah, that could easily happen because the Nomex is "moister repellent" and hey, there might actually be some wet stuff on the fireground...but hey, he'd definitely look unique.)

Matt -

"The nail that sticks up get hammered down."

I've observed that if you want a long and happy career in firefighting, it's better to work on fitting in versus on standing out. Real firefighters despise grandstanding.

Your mileage may vary.

Kali

Ok Kali, I'll give you the stress relief factor.

But would hurting oneself laughing, be considered an on the job injury?

You could color it with a Sharpe marker.
